September, 2019 We start the FOURTH project at Jennings Co. HS.

July, 2019 Oshkosh! We had some “firsts” this year. It was our first year to attend for the entire week, the first time to have a booth, the first time to have an AviationNation-built RV-12 there (by a girl who helped build it,) and the first time for AviationNation to get a significant article in the AirVenture daily paper. We had 19 students attend, bringing our total since 2011 to 141 students. It was a grand time!

May, 2019 This was the month of graduations! Many students from various programs graduated with honors, including one from Jennings Co. HS who was awarded the President’s Scholarship to Indiana State. I was invited to attend the school Honors Banquet, and the presentation of the Scholarship!

December, 2018 This month we have had two of our students get their Private Pilot’s Licenses, and a former student and part-time mentor get his FOURTH instructor’s rating (land, seaplane, instrument, and now multi-engine.) I believe we can prove that aircraft construction is the best way to get kids to commit to aviation. One of those new PPLs goes to a student who also this month got about $50K in scholarships in aviation. We are proud of our students!

October 24, 2018 This evening about 4:42 Van’s aircraft kit #120453 went from being a project to being an airplane. The first test flight went well, and the kids had a great time watching. The plane flew hands-off and needed no propeller adjustment. It would appear that our kids really did a great job building this RV-12, and the RV-12 did a good job teaching them many lessons. Things not all related to aluminum and rivets, I might add. I am very proud of them, and what they created.

August, 2018 Back from Oshkosh, and it was a big success. We had 18 students there (actually more, but they were not part of our programs.) A highlight was Wednesday lunch with speakers Paul Dye (past Director of the Space Shuttle Program, and Past Director of the ISS, now Editor of Kit Planes Magazine,) and Dick VanGrunsven, founder of Van’s Aircraft. Both wonderful people and excellent inspiration to our kids. To many other highlights to cover, but a wonderful time.

July, 2018 Visit us at AirVenture Oshkosh! We will be located at 51st and Lindbergh, not far from the Antiques and Classics area of the field. During the day, you can almost always catch someone from AN, Inc at the student built aircraft display area, near the Homebuilt Hangar. Hope to see you there!

March 6th, 2018 – AviationNation just received notification that we were nominated  for and are the recipient of the Civil Air Patrol’s Frank G. Brewer Memorial Aerospace Award for our work with the Civil Air Patrol Cadets from Burke High School in Omaha, Nebraska.

The Frank G. Brewer-Civil Air Patrol Memorial Aerospace Award is presented in commemoration of Frank G. Brewer, Sr. and his lifelong interest in aviation, youth and education.  This prestigious award is presented at the Annual Conference and is given to recognize individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions, out of selfless devotion, to the advancement of youth in aerospace activities.

Huge thank you to Maj John Pineda, Squadron Commander of the Omaha Composite Squadron for submitting us for the award.
